Need

A large cosmetics company wanted to build a beauty-centric online shopping portal.

Solution

While at Razorfish, I led a team of developers building this Web application. This site was a large-scale endeavor both in its scale and in its complexity. The main site (gloss.com) encompasses several branded sub-sites and focuses on products from those brands. It has to lead the user quickly and intuitively to the products that are the best fit, avoiding confusing and distracting the user with too many choices.

Our chief task as developers for this site was to seamlessly integrate both the user interface and business logic of the main site and all of the sub-sites. In leading the development effort on this project, I was called on to define standards and practices, consult with our client about timelines and goals, mentor junior developers, and provide code libraries to solve some of the main technical challenges.
