The Author
My name is Scott Martin. I am a Ph. D. student in linguistics at Ohio State University. Formerly, I was a software engineer and Web developer in Cambridge, MA where I founded coffeeblack. Except for a few things I have borrowed, I authored all of the code on this site, from front to back. More information about me is available in my profile. Feel free to contact me with any thoughts, comments, or suggestions.

The Name
The name coffeeblack comes from my father, who has always ordered a “coffee, black” as far back as I can remember.
Behind The Scenes
This site uses a combination of technologies to create dynamic web pages that are interconnected and rich in information. PHP is used to handle incoming requests. The site’s data is represented as XML, then rendered as XHTML using XSLT transformations. All style information is contained separately in a series of CSS files.
Standards Compliance
Every effort is made to have this site comply with accepted web standards. The markup is valid XHTML 1.0, and the style sheets are all valid CSS 2. To check this site’s code against W3C standards:
Syndication
This site offers an RSS 2.0 syndication feed that is constantly updated with summary of its content.
